Police Fatally Shot A Man After He Murdered Four People, Including Two Children, And Slashed Two Officers

Early on a Sunday morning, in the Far Rockaway neighborhood of Queens, New York City, this tragic incident transpired. A horrifying incident involving a suspect, later identified as 38-year-old Courtney Gordon, allegedly went on a deadly rampage in a residence was reported by the New York Police Department.

When police received a distress call at approximately 5:00 a.m. from a young girl who claimed that her cousin was assaulting members of her family, the violence erupted. At Beach 22nd Street, two experienced NYPD officers, one with 28 years of service and the other with 16, were the first to arrive at the scene. Gordon was observed in the driveway, towing luggage from the residence. Reportedly, he attacked the officers with a kitchen knife when they attempted to question him, resulting in the slicing of one officer’s face and neck and the other sustaining a head injury. One of the officers, notwithstanding their injuries, was successful in shooting and killing Gordon, thereby stopping the attack.

Officers with non-life-threatening injuries were transported to Jamaica Hospital; their identities have not been disclosed. As additional officers arrived, they discovered a stabbed 11-year-old girl outside the front door; she was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital. Fire damage to a sofa in the living room was allegedly caused by the suspect, which prevented immediate entry into the residence. Upon entering, officers discovered three additional fatally stabbed victims, including a 12-year-old boy, in two back bedrooms. A 61-year-old woman was also discovered inside and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in Queens with critical stab wounds.

In the remaining fatalities were a man in his 30s and a woman aged 44. Until the families of these victims are informed, their names are being withheld. The victims are believed to have been related to Gordon, who was visiting relatives in Queens at the time of the incident and resided in the Bronx, according to the police.

An investigation into the motive for this devastating attack is ongoing. President of the New York City Police Benevolent Association Patrick Henry lauded the injured officers’ valor and skill in handling the perilous and disorderly situation, emphasizing the unpredictability of police work and the possible consequences that might have transpired in the absence of the officers.
