A child custody exchange in River Ridge took a violent turn on Monday morning, resulting in gunfire. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that one man was hospitalized and another was taken into custody. According to the spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, Capt. Jason Rivarde, the shooting took place at an apartment complex located in the 10900 block of Jefferson Highway.
Jawan Glenn, a 26-year-old resident of New Orleans, arrived at the complex around 8 a.m. to exchange custody of his child with the mother. Rivarde, the spokesperson, did not disclose the child’s age. An argument ensued between Glenn and the woman, leading to Glenn entering her apartment without her permission, as confirmed by Rivarde.
Once they were inside, Glenn engaged in a physical altercation with Tovon Miles, the woman’s boyfriend from Gray, Louisiana, according to Rivarde. As Glenn left the apartment, Miles pursued him and fired shots, hitting him in the hip and leg, according to Rivarde. Glenn was admitted to a hospital on Tuesday and is currently in stable condition.
Miles, who is a convicted felon, was apprehended at the apartment complex. According to Rivarde, he was charged with aggravated second-degree battery and possessing a firearm. Unfortunately, there is no immediate information regarding his past offense.
According to Rivarde, Glenn will also be charged with a criminal offense. After being discharged from the hospital, he will be arrested for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. Miles is currently being held without bail at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna.
