On November 25, after a suspect led police on a chase, the individual entered the water and did not resurface. The morning of November 26 saw the recovery of a body from the water, and authorities suspect it may be the same person.
The incident took place in the vicinity of Behl Court, close to Jonathans Cove Drive.
Fire Rescue and EMS are currently conducting a search on the Elizabeth River using boats, according to Virginia Beach Police’s Public Information Officer, Jude Brenya. In addition to the boats, they had drones and a helicopter in the air earlier to aid in the search.
The person they’re searching for initiated the entire situation by fleeing from the police, he added.
According to Brenya, our dispatchers received a call for service today at around 5:20 p.m. The suspect was believed to be involved in a larceny at a local store and had also allegedly exposed themselves to people in the vicinity. In response, one of our officers went to the area and spotted the individual. However, the suspect disappeared into the water off one of the residential docks and was never seen again.
The search for the body was temporarily suspended on Saturday night but resumed on Sunday, resulting in its discovery. Investigators are currently engaged in the process of identifying the body and informing the next of kin. The official cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
