A report states that on Black Friday, the mother of a 9-year-old girl was arrested at a mall in Southern California following the discovery of her daughter’s body in their residence.
Fox Los Angeles reported that Khadiyjah Aliyyah Ali Pendergraph, 32, was apprehended on suspicion of murder on Friday afternoon after the body of her daughter was discovered in their Westminster residence. She was detained by police at a nearby shopping center, according to the news source.
A family member had requested that authorities perform a welfare check. The report states that the girl’s corpse, which exhibited signs of trauma, was discovered inside the residence by police.
Darin Lenyi, chief of police of Westminster, told the station, “While police officers are exposed to tragedies on a daily basis, this murder is particularly disturbing due to the senseless loss of a child allegedly at the hands of her own mother.”
Pendergraph is presently incarcerated at the Orange County Jailt.
