Rocco Rodden, a high school football player hailing from Warren and aged 17, met an untimely demise at the hands of assailants early on Thanksgiving morning in lower Manhattan, New York City.
The occurrence transpired at 96 Lafayette Street at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Thursday. Rodden, a St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale junior offensive lineman, was one of two stabbing victims discovered by the police.
He was pronounced deceased at Bellevue Hospital, where he was transported. The condition of the second victim, a 19-year-old, is stable subsequent to the traumatic event. The 19-year-old New York resident Gianluca Bordone was arrested in relation to the incident. Bordone is accused of assault and manslaughter.
Former St. Joseph’s head coach Dan Marangi attended a team meeting in support of the staff and players. Athletic director of the institution Reggie Sainte Rose declared the campus counselors’ availability and a prayer service. Commemorations and tributes to Rodden have been expressed by members of the school community, including teammates, coaches, and members of the coaching staff, to underscore his significance and the profound sorrow that has been felt.
