South Brunswick – Law authorities in New Jersey on Wednesday murdered a guy who was wanted in connection with the 2022 gunpoint robbery of a Brooklyn bishop mid-sermon, a source informed PIX11 News.
A law enforcement source reports that Shamar Leggette, 41, was slain during a standoff with U.S. Marshals Service agents at a motel in South Brunswick at approximately 3 p.m. According to the source, Leggette had been staying at the motel with his girlfriend for a few days.
According to the law enforcement source, Leggette’s girlfriend gave up after the standoff lasted for almost fifteen minutes. After a while, Leggette emerged from the motel room and started shooting at police officers. They shot back, killing Leggette.
The law enforcement source stated that Leggette and his girlfriend called themselves a “Bonnie and Clyde” team.
According to a law enforcement source, Leggette was also wanted for the man’s death outside a strip club in Scranton, Pennsylvania, last month, and for an attempted murder in Providence, Rhode Island, last summer.
According to New York state court records, Leggette was found guilty in Queens in 2012 of trying to kill someone. Ten years after his release from jail, he escaped parole and was eventually found to have participated in the heist of the Brooklyn church.
Leggette was one of three people charged with robbing Bishop Lamor Whitehead on July 24, 2022, at Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministries in Canarsie.
The other two alleged robbers have already been apprehended. According to the Eastern District of New York, Juwan Anderson and Say-Quan Pollack entered guilty pleas and are awaiting sentencing proceedings. Since the robbery, Leggette had stayed on the loose.
The theft was caught on camera during the service broadcast live online by the church. While parishioners were inside the church, the armed robbers broke in, according to the police. According to the victims, the thieves took more than $1 million worth of valuables, including necklaces, watches, and rings.

Whitehead said that his reputation was destroyed by the crime. Everyone assumed that I was the one who staged the heist. It has demolished both my ministry and my reputation,” stated Whitehead.
Whitehead’s trial is scheduled for next month. Authorities claim that the bishop was taken into custody in December 2022 after he reportedly conned a parishioner out of retirement funds.
