According to the KCPD, a suspect fired several shots towards a business in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday night, resulting in the death of one woman who was leaving the premises with others.
At around 10:30 p.m., the authorities were alerted about a shooting incident at 3825 Main Street. Upon reaching the scene, the officers discovered an unconscious victim lying outside the establishment. The victim, identified as Courtney L. Wickman, 33, was immediately taken to a nearby hospital in a critical state with injuries that posed a threat to her life, as reported by KCPD.
Witnesses have reported that Wickman, along with others, was leaving the business at the time when she was hit by gunfire. The Kansas City Police Department has confirmed that investigations reveal that Wickman was not the intended target of the shooting.
According to the KCPD, Katera R. Mayfield, who is 21 years old, fled the crime scene. The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office has charged her with assault.
According to the KCPD, there is evidence to support the theory that Mayfield was in the vicinity of Osage County, Kansas. In conjunction with the Osage County Sheriff’s Office, authorities discovered Mayfield’s body the following day, and it appeared to be a case of suicide.
