Mocobizscene- According to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé, a woman was robbed at gunpoint by a group of Black men wearing dark clothing and ski masks at the intersection of Clifton Avenue and Treadwell Street at 8 a.m. The suspects then escaped in a gray 2019 Hyundai Sonata, which had been previously stolen in the city.
The police noticed the vehicle at Bergen Street and Avon Avenue and tried to stop it, according to Fragé. However, the driver refused to pull over, leading to a chase on Route 78 West. Fragé added that a police helicopter was dispatched to assist in the pursuit.
The suspects left the vehicle behind and escaped on foot at Route 78 and Exit 26, Fragé reported. With the help of Tewksbury Police and Readington Police, members of the NJ State Police and Newark Police successfully apprehended each of the suspects, Fragé added.
Ian Cisse, a 19-year-old resident of Secaucus, along with Tyler Walker, an 18-year-old resident of Newark, and Jahaad Lewis, also an 18-year-old resident of Newark, faced charges of robbery, conspiracy, weapon possession, employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime, criminal restraint, and child endangerment, Fragé said.
Four teenagers, aged 17, 16, and two 13-year-olds, all living in Newark, have been arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including robbery, conspiracy, weapon possession, possession of a firearm by minors, criminal restraint, and child endangerment.
