The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has announced a massive beef recall in New York State. Skyline Provisions, Inc., headquartered in Harvey, Illinois, is recalling around 5,620 pounds of raw ground beef.
Midwest Flooding Likely to Lead to Higher Meat Prices
The recall revolves around certain items that were sent to institutions not just in New York State but also in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin. There is a possibility that the ground beef products contain foreign objects that can be harmful. A food service worker raised concerns after discovering a foreign object in the meat during food preparation, prompting a customer complaint. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far. The FSIS is worried that these ground beef products may still be present in the freezers of institutions.
These are the products impacted by the recall:
20-lb. carton boxes containing four packages of “SKYLINE PROVISIONS, INC. GROUND BEEF 81/19” with “ITEM # 000248” printed on the label. 20-lb. carton boxes containing four packages of “SKYLINE PROVISIONS, INC. GROUND BEEF 75/25” with “ITEM # 000293” printed on the label.
Inside the USDA mark of inspection, you can find the establishment number “EST. 19300” on the packaging of ground beef.
If you have any inquiries regarding the recent ground beef recall, Edward Gricus, the General Manager of Skyline Provisions, Inc., can assist you. You can reach him at 630-493-9900. Additionally, consumers can contact the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 for further assistance.
Hopefully, food producers will improve their standards in 2024, considering the numerous food recalls that have taken place this year.
