Miami Beach Father Charged with Child Neglect for Leaving 4-Year-Old in SUV Again

Authorities in Miami Beach have announced that a father who left his 4-year-old boy alone in his SUV has been detained twice.

As reported by Miami Beach police, the toddler was discovered by a concerned woman who saw her alone in a white Chevrolet Suburban parked in a bicycle lane near 1600 Washington Ave. To make matters worse, when the officers arrived, they discovered that the car had been turned off, the keys were still in the ignition, and the rear passenger window was fully down, possibly putting the young child in danger.

The 34-year-old father, Osman Karatas, was arrested on Tuesday on a number of charges, including child neglect, according to Local10. This arrest follows another incident from 2022 in which he was also arrested for leaving the same boy, who was 2 at the time, in a car while he was inside the Clevelander with his wife; this act also resulted in charges of child neglect being brought against both parents.

The most recent instance happened after Karatas allegedly left his son to get supplies from his place of employment. He insisted he had only temporarily left his child, but the woman who reported the incident said the boy had been left alone for more than ten minutes and she was afraid he would be in danger.

Thankfully, the boy was calm and in good health when the police arrived, and he was then released to his mother, Sevda Karatas. In the meantime, Global Media Pulse reports that the incident has been reported to a Florida Department of Children and Families investigator.
