Man’s Death In Hackensack River Determined To Be A Homicide By Medical Examiners

After conducting an autopsy, officials from Hudson County have confirmed that the death of a man discovered in the Hackensack River over the weekend was a homicide.

According to county Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the man’s cause of death was determined to be gunshot wounds to the upper body. As of now, the man remains unidentified, and the prosecutor’s office is collaborating with other state law enforcement agencies to establish his identity.

The Secaucus Police Department received a notification around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday and promptly responded to the scene near the eastern spur of the New Jersey Turnpike. With the assistance of the underwater recovery units from the Lyndhurst and Mahwah fire departments, as well as the departments from Secaucus, Kearny, and Wallington, the victim’s body was successfully pulled from the river.

The lockdown at Fairleigh Dickinson Teaneck campus has been lifted following a report of a person with a weapon.

The man was declared dead a little after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
