Federal Authorities File Narcotics Complaint Against Marigny Homicide Suspect

The man who was imprisoned for second-degree murder in the November Marigny killing of his friend is now facing drug charges filed by federal authorities.

Rakheem Kenner, a 20-year-old individual, is facing charges of possession with the intention to distribute controlled substances as well as possession of a firearm in connection with drug trafficking. In the initial arrest made by the New Orleans police on November 27, Kenner was charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in relation to the homicide that occurred on the same night.

FBI agents have successfully acquired a search warrant for a white Dodge Durango that was associated with Kenner at the location where the murder took place. During the search, narcotics were discovered inside the vehicle. In light of these findings, federal authorities have issued a demand to the Orleans Parish officials, requesting that they hand over Kenner to either the United States Marshal or the FBI before 2 p.m. on December 13th.

At around 4 p.m., the police were called to a homicide incident that took place at the intersection of Henriette Delille and St. Anthony streets. A man named Kendall Haines, aged 33, reportedly exited the Durango vehicle along with Kenner and proceeded to open fire on a man standing on the corner. Sadly, Kendall Haines succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Police believe that Kenner and Haines initiated the shootout, leading to the charge of homicide against Kenner.

Kenner arrived at the hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound, yet he declined to provide a statement to the authorities at that time. Subsequently, two rifles were discovered in the Durango vehicle, along with a backpack containing a digital scale, approximately $3,700 in cash, and various drugs meticulously packaged for individual sale.

Inside a separate backpack, authorities discovered a substantial amount of drugs, a sum close to $300, a digital scale, and a list of phone numbers. Upon conducting tests on the illicit substances, law enforcement identified fentanyl, powder cocaine, and crack cocaine.
