A fiery SUV crashed into the Long Beach Bridge Support, killing two men

Mocobizscene-  Two men were killed in a devastating accident on Sunday evening in Long Beach when their SUV collided with a bridge support and fell into the Los Cerritos Channel. The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) and other emergency units swiftly arrived at the scene of the tragic incident, responding to the distressing situation at approximately 6:22 p.m., according to officials.

According to a press release from the LBPD, the initial inquiry indicates that the driver of a 2004 GMC Yukon was recklessly weaving through traffic on Studebaker Road before losing control. As a result, the vehicle collided with the bridge, caught fire, and ultimately sank in the channel. The Long Beach Fire Department divers successfully rescued the driver, who unfortunately succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Meanwhile, the passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner is currently notifying the families of the deceased individuals, so their names are being withheld at this time. Investigators are examining speed, reckless driving, and the possibility of impaired driving as potential factors that contributed to the accident.

The LBPD is actively encouraging witnesses to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Detective Joseph Johnson, from the LBPD Collision Investigation Detail, has specifically requested individuals with any valuable information to contact him directly at (562) 570-7355. For those who wish to remain anonymous, there are alternative options available.
