In recently acquired court documents, rapper Jeezy has made allegations that his estranged wife, TV host Jeannie Mai, has been denying him visitation rights to their 2-year-old daughter, Monaco Mai Jenkins. These documents, filed on Tuesday, April 16, in a Fulton County, Georgia court, state that Jeezy has only been able to see his daughter 8 times this year and is unaware of her current place of residence.
Fans are reacting to Jeezy’s statement on his new album about real men not cheating, especially after filing for divorce from Jeannie Mai. Many are questioning his words and asking if he will hold true to them.
Jeezy and Jeannie Mai tied the knot on March 27, 2021, in an intimate ceremony at their Atlanta, Georgia residence. Their blissful union was further blessed when they welcomed their daughter, Monaco Mai Jenkins, on January 11, 2022. Unfortunately, after two years of marriage, Jeezy, whose birth name is Jay Wayne Jenkins, filed for divorce from his wife on September 14, 2023.
Jeezy filed for divorce from his wife Jeannie Mai, stating that they were already separated and had no chance of reconciling. It was also revealed that the couple had a prenuptial agreement in place. Jeezy is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their daughter.
Jeezy denies cheating on Jeannie Mai during their marriage.
Since filing for divorce, Jeezy and Jeannie Mai have been engaged in a legal battle, with both parties continuously submitting petitions. In November 2023, Jeezy accused Jeannie Mai of acting as a “gatekeeper,” preventing him from spending time with their daughter. As a result, he requested the intervention of a judge to establish a custody schedule.
According to a report by Radar Online, Jeezy and Jeannie Mai had initially come to an agreement on a visitation schedule, but unfortunately, things did not work out as planned. In the filing, the rapper’s lawyer expressed concerns about the lack of consistency and stability associated with the haphazard and fluid parenting time schedule. The lawyer emphasized that this situation has caused stress to the child and has created unnecessary tension and confusion regarding each parent’s role and rights when the child is in their custody.
Jeezy’s lawyer also claimed that the rapper did not believe his estranged wife was intentionally trying to harm him, but rather, he felt she was acting as a “gatekeeper.” According to the motion, he stated, “[Mai’s] interference with [Jeezy’s] relationship with the Child, while not malicious, is causing confusion and tension between the parties and hindering the development of [Jeezy’s] relationship with the Child. Therefore, it is necessary to establish clear temporary legal and physical custody rights and a parenting time schedule that is in the best interest of the Child.”
Jeannie Mai, in a recent revelation, shared that she found out about Jeezy filing for divorce at the same time as the rest of the world. She expressed feeling gutted upon learning of the news.
In December 2023, Jeannie Mai refuted Jeezy’s accusations of being a “gatekeeper.” According to TMZ, Mai clarified in court documents that her primary concern was their daughter’s safety, rather than exerting control. She stated that she had been granting Jeezy visitation rights and even provided extended time during the holidays.
According to Ms. Jenkins’ lawyer, it is important to emphasize that her request for reasonable safety measures, such as securely storing and locking away firearms that have been previously unsecured, as well as having caregivers with proper training and familiarity, is not about gatekeeping but rather a responsible effort to prioritize the well-being of their daughter.
According to her legal team, Ms. Jenkins’ primary concern is her daughter’s safety and security, particularly when she is under the care of others and traveling. The requests made are seen as reasonable protective measures rather than an attempt to limit Mr. Jenkins’ access to their daughter.
On April 11, 2024, TMZ later reported that Jeezy is said to have requested full custody of their 2-year-old daughter, following his split from Jeannie Mai. According to the site, Jeezy allegedly raised concerns about Jeannie Mai’s ability to care for their child, prompting him to ask the court to revise their existing custody arrangement and grant him full custody. Initially, after their separation, Jeezy had agreed to reside in the basement of their family home. However, Jeannie Mai ultimately moved out of the house, taking their daughter along with her.
In exclusive court documents obtained by Hollywood Unlocked, Jeezy asserts that he lacks any knowledge of his daughter’s current residence or whereabouts. He further accuses Jeannie Mai of obstructing communication and disregarding the agreements made for communication and visitation with their child.
In his recent motion, Jeezy is currently requesting joint legal and physical custody, with a court-determined parenting schedule. The rapper clarified that his intention is not to separate his daughter from her mother, but rather to ensure equal time with his daughter. He highlights the significance of the child spending time with both families to gain an understanding and appreciation for both her Vietnamese and African American heritage.
