Mocobizscene-Xavion Watts, a 20-year-old individual, has been charged with possession of a machine gun. The charges were filed against him earlier this month by a federal agent, who also accused him of kidnapping and possession of a machine gun. However, it is unclear why the indictment on Friday did not include the alleged kidnapping.
On April 18, federal prosecutors allege that Watts unlawfully entered a residence located in the 10900 block of Roger Drive in New Orleans. During this incident, he is accused of kidnapping his then girlfriend and even firing a shot at her daughter, who bravely attempted to rescue her.
According to reports, the victim’s brother was reportedly asked by Watts to pay a ransom of $15,000. Shortly after, the victim was released and left at the location.
Shortly before the abduction, the victim received a call from Watts, according to her statement to the police. She explained that he requested her assistance in picking him up from a nearby location due to the malfunctioning stolen vehicle he was driving.
When the woman’s brother failed to respond, she took matters into her own hands. She decided to send Watts $4,000 through electronic transfer and persuaded him to find someone near Chef Menteur Highway and America Street who could give her a ride back home.
The driver who picked her up turned out to be Watts’ friend and he brought her back to the scene. They immediately took both the victim and her daughter to the hospital. Watts later arrived, attempting to find out their room numbers.
Watts remains in custody at the Orleans Parish Justice Center for his involvement in the same incident. He is facing multiple charges in state court, including second-degree armed kidnapping, aggravated assault with a firearm, and domestic abuse battery. In addition to the recent federal indictment, he is also awaiting trial for these charges in state court.
