Identification Made For Two Individuals Killed In Shooting At New Year’s Party In Los Angeles

Mocobizscene- The victims of the shooting at an underground New Year’s party in downtown Los Angeles, which resulted in the death of a man and a woman, have been identified.

 

The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the shooting took place at 12:53 a.m. on Monday at 2350 Porter St.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner and the LAPD, Deven Whitaker, a 24-year-old man from Los Angeles, and Miah Banks, a 26-year-old woman from Azusa, tragically lost their lives at the scene.

The LAPD reported receiving a radio call about an “ambulance shooting” at the intersection of 15th Street and Santa Fe Avenue. As officers arrived at the scene, they heard multiple gunshots originating from the vicinity of Santa Fe Avenue and Porter Street.

According to the police, a significant number of individuals were observed running away from the scene. On Porter Street, between Santa Fe Avenue and Mateo Street, officers discovered several victims lying on the street and sidewalk.

Efforts were made to save lives, and emergency personnel transported multiple victims to nearby hospitals. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, a man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the police.

Attendees of a New Year’s Eve celebration at an underground party on Porter Street in the 2300 block became victims of a shooting incident. According to the police, the altercation arose from an argument between unidentified individuals, leading to the discharge of firearms.

The authorities did not release any descriptions of the suspects, and there were no reported arrests. Mayor Karen Bass expressed her condolences to those affected by the mass shooting in Downtown Los Angeles over the holiday weekend. In a statement released on Tuesday, she conveyed her sympathies on behalf of the entire City.

The Office of Community Safety has been diligently working non-stop in collaboration with community interventionists and the Los Angeles Police Department to offer assistance to those affected by the incident and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

Next week, I will meet with survivors, community leaders, and interventionists to discuss proactive strategies aimed at ensuring the safety of all Angelenos. My administration remains committed to making the eradication of gun violence in our communities a top priority.
