In addition to the federal gun charges already pending in Delaware, Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, has been charged with nine more taxes in California. The allegations pertain to taxes that were due between 2016 and 2019 totaling at least $1.4 million.
The latest accusations follow the collapse of a plea agreement that would have spared him from jail time throughout the summer. Hunter Biden can spend up to 17 years behind bars if found guilty. Abbe Lowell, the defense attorney for Hunter Biden, claimed that the charges would not have been filed if Hunter’s last name had not been Biden and accused special counsel David Weiss of caving in to Republican pressure in the case.
The indictment of President Biden coincides with an impeachment investigation headed by Republicans, which claims that the two men engaged in an influence-peddling plot. Thus yet, there is no proof that Joe Biden misused his position or took bribes.
The defense intends to contest the additional charges, maybe by utilizing the immunity clause from the initial plea agreement. In addition, Lowell intends to argue that the gun charges should be dropped because they are “unprecedented and unconstitutional.”
