Father-Driven Cherry Picker Accidentally Kills Teenage Construction Worker

Last week, tragedy struck in New York City when a construction worker lost his life in a devastating accident. The victim was fatally run over by a cherry picker that was being operated by none other than his own father.

According to authorities, Ommatt Cruz, a freshman college student from Staten Island who is just 19 years old, was assisting his father in navigating a crowded intersection in the East Village on Friday morning.

According to the New York Post, the 19-year-old was struck and knocked down by the lift as it entered the intersection, with the vehicle driving over him. NYPD provided this information.

According to the report, Victor Cruz, aged 43, was visibly distraught at the scene after accidentally running over his son. No arrest has been made as of yet. According to a spokesperson from the NYPD, the investigation is ongoing and as of now, there is no indication of any criminal activity.

According to Rafael Roman, a neighbor of the Cruz family, the father and son had a close relationship and enjoyed spending time together, often working on cars and motorcycles. Roman observed that Ommatt Cruz was either attending school or spending time with his father, demonstrating their tight bond.

Ommatt’s loved ones have established a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of the funeral.

On the page, it was written, “We lost one of our own in a tragic accident.” The person in question was Ommatt Cruz, who had recently turned 19. He was a loving and devoted son to his parents and a dedicated brother.
