Davenport man faces attempted murder, other charges after gunfire, assault

According to court papers, police believe a 29-year-old Davenport man hit and then shot a victim with a pistol late on Sunday. He is charged with attempted murder in addition to other offenses.

According to court records, Ralondo Nelson II is charged with several felonies, including attempted murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, willful injury causing serious injury, assault while participating in a felony causing serious injury, going armed with intent, possession of a firearm by a felon, and an aggravated misdemeanor charge of using a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime.
According to arrest affidavits, Davenport Police were called to the 4300 block of North Ripley Street just before 11 p.m. on Sunday regarding a report of robbery and shooting. A victim with a gunshot wound was discovered by the officers and sent to a hospital.

Authorities claim that Nelson intended to “use it against the victim without justification” when he was carrying a 9mm handgun. Arrest papers state that he “caused a large laceration in the victim’s back of the head by striking him with the pistol after forcing him inside his apartment.”

Nelson shot the man after the assault, according to police, “causing a high likelihood of his death that required emergency medical treatment and subsequent surgery,” according to affidavits. Nelson is accused by the police of stealing the victim’s personal belongings from within his flat.

Nelson has been found guilty of several felonies, according to police affidavits. Nelson is being held in the Scott County Jail on a $101,000 cash-only bond after being booked on a warrant. Scott County Court has scheduled a preliminary hearing for him for March 1.
