Burglary in South Kortright, NY: Local Man Pleads Guilty

Mocobizscene-On December 18, 2023, Kyle Oakley, a 32-year-old resident of South Kortright, New York, made an appearance in Delaware County Court. During the court session, Oakley entered a guilty plea to the charge of Burglary in the Third Degree.

Oakley appeared before Judge Gary A. Rosa, who was presiding over the Delaware County Court. This appearance came after a court conference held earlier that day. During the hearing, Oakley admitted to committing the offense of Burglary in the Third Degree, which is classified as a Class D Felony.

An investigation into a forced entry incident at a seasonal residence in March 2022 has resulted in charges being filed. On March 8, 2022, Delaware County Sheriff Deputy Cody Tromblee responded to a call about damage to the front door of the residence. Deputy Tromblee conducted an investigation and discovered a Nike sweatshirt that did not belong to the homeowner. To gather evidence, Deputy Tromblee and Undersheriff Kim Smith processed the sweatshirt and sent it to the New York State Police Crime Lab for DNA extraction. The forensic analysis of the garment revealed a DNA match to Kyle Oakley, leading to his arrest by the Sheriff’s Department.

After admitting his guilt, Judge Rosa handed down a sentence of 5 years of felony probation supervision for Oakley. In addition, the court mandated that Oakley pay $1,000.00 in restitution to the homeowner to cover the damages done to their property. If Oakley fails to comply with the terms of his probation, he could potentially face a resentencing of 2 and 1/3 to 7 years in state prison.
