A man from Doylestown Township will be extradited to New York to face murder charges. He was arrested last week after finishing his shift at the Bucks County Correctional Center in Doylestown.
Aaron Mayers, 25, residing in the 20 block of Constitutional Avenue, was apprehended on Saturday by the Doylestown Township Police and the U.S. Marshal Service. According to Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Clark from the Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force, Mayers was working as a corrections officer at the county jail.
According to Manuel Gamiz, spokesman for the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, ASAP Rocky has agreed to be extradited. The exact timeline for his return to New York, however, is still uncertain.
According to Clark, Mayers has been accused of second-degree murder and other unspecified charges in connection with an incident in Queens, New York. It is believed that Mayers ran over the victim, who was involved in a street fight, while another man involved in the incident is already in custody.
According to county spokesperson James O’Malley, Mr. Mayers, who had been employed by the county for just over a year and earned $25.04 per hour, was fully cooperative with law enforcement during the investigation and subsequent arrest.
Bucks County Commissioner Diane Ellis Marseglia, a member of the county’s Prison Oversight Board, chose not to comment on the issue, stating that it is personnel-related. However, she did confirm that the board was promptly informed about the arrest.
Tarik Sheppard, the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, did not respond to emails requesting information on Tuesday. Furthermore, there were no press releases available online regarding the Queens murder or Mayers’ arrest on Saturday. The Queens ADA office is unable to disclose further details regarding the incident for which Mayers was charged. Similarly, the Doylestown Township police have chosen not to comment and have directed all inquiries to the NYPD.
Mayers has been taken into custody and is currently incarcerated in Montgomery County, awaiting extradition.
