A Destructive Storm Threatens Florida To North Carolina Wednesday

On Wednesday, the danger of extreme weather will finally move away from the coast, following a potent cross-country storm that caused trouble for holiday travelers leaving town for Thanksgiving.

The Gulf Coast states were hit hard by heavy rain and strong winds on Tuesday, with Alabama and Florida experiencing multiple Tornado Warnings from late afternoon well into the evening.

Both storm chasers and the National Weather Service have confirmed the occurrence of a tornado located west of Dothan, Alabama.

On Monday, the lower Mississippi Valley experienced a series of tornadoes, with the National Weather Service receiving reports of at least five tornadoes from northern Louisiana to central Mississippi.

The NWS reported structural damage and downed trees resulting from one of the suspected tornadoes in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. In addition, golf-ball-sized hail pounded certain areas of Louisiana during Monday evening. The video below captures the chaotic sound of the hailstorm.

As golf-ball-sized hail began to rain down on his car and front yard, a resident of Ferriday, Louisiana, sought shelter in his garage. The severe weather threat for Wednesday will be shifted as storms persistently move towards the east.

Wednesday’s severe weather threat

There is a chance of isolated severe thunderstorms on Wednesday morning in eastern North Carolina and the Outer Banks. The main focus of concern is on locally destructive wind gusts and a short-lived tornado.
