Mocobizscene- The assailant who fatally shot a man Wednesday night at a busy intersection in Crown Heights is currently being sought by the police. At approximately 6:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to answer gunfire near Union Street and Utica Avenue. They discovered a 23-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds strewn across his body upon their arrival.
At Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, the victim was transported. It has been reported that the shooter escaped the area on foot. During a town hall meeting in Brooklyn, Mayor Eric Adams stated that the dispute originated within a smoke store prior to escalating into the street.
“Cannabis shops have become extremely problematic shootings,” he commented. A half-dozen witnesses who all heard multiple gunfire before a crowd fled for safety were interviewed off-camera by Eyewitness News.
Given the circumstances, none of them were inclined to appear on camera, as this incident marked the second fatal gunshot in the vicinity within a span of 48 hours.
Across the street, there is a candlelight vigil in remembrance of a 21-year-old man who was fatally shot just around the corner from the crime site. Investigative personnel are presently examining the possibility that the two homicides are related.
In either incident, no arrests have been made thus far. The initial victim possessed a lengthy record of rapes.
According to witnesses, the gunfire on Wednesday night appeared to be highly targeted. “I am indeed concerned,” one neighborhood resident responded. “A little kid could be passing back and forth and could get shot for no reason.”
