Three years after a woman’s body was discovered in a hospital parking lot, a man’s capital murder accusation was withdrawn

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A man from Montgomery County was charged with capital murder for the shooting death of KeAira Battle in 2020. However, the charge has been dismissed.

KeAira Battle, 27, of Montgomery, was found dead outside the Elmore Community Hospital on June 17, 2020.

Wetumpka authorities had stated that evidence found indicated she had been shot in Montgomery before being brought to Wetumpka.

The case was widely publicized as officials from Elmore and Montgomery counties worked together to determine the lead agency for the “cross-jurisdictional crime.”

Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey stated that his office was given new evidence that led to the dismissal of the charges. However, he did not provide details about the evidence.

Bailey mentioned that his office is committed to seeking justice in every case and will not pursue any case where evidence is insufficient.

Bailey plans to ask the Montgomery Police Department to reopen the homicide investigation to examine the new evidence.
