Authorities confirmed on Thursday that a woman who was charged with third-degree assault in connection with a brawl on a dock in Alabama had surrendered herself to the police.
This comes after two men, who were also charged with the same offence, turned themselves in on Wednesday. The Montgomery Police Department provided the update to USA TODAY.
During a press conference, Police Chief Darryl J. Albert revealed that a third man who was also charged with third-degree assault had turned himself in on Tuesday. These charges are considered minor offences in the state of Alabama.
The police are still in search of a man who was seen hitting multiple people with a folding chair during the altercation, which occurred in Montgomery’s Riverfront Park last Saturday.
More updates on the incident are yet to be disclosed.
Brawl caught on video, spread on social media
The brawl video that went viral on social media was caused by a co-captain of the Alabama River cruise ship, the Harriott II, attempting to dock at its designated spot, but was blocked by a private boat, according to Albert.
The captain of the Harriott II remained away from the dock for almost 45 minutes as he tried to contact the operators of the private boat via the PA system.
However, they only responded with gestures, curse words, and taunting. Damien Pickett, the co-captain, was picked up by a different boat and brought to the pier so he could try to talk to the owners of the private boat to allow the Harriott to dock and its 227 passengers to disembark.
However, several people associated with the private boat attacked Pickett after they exchanged words for several minutes. The passengers of the Harriott II came to Pickett’s defence during the attack.
The police arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and detained 13 people. All those detained were taken to police headquarters for questioning and interviews, which lasted for several hours.
Everyone was released pending the investigation. According to Albert, a 16-year-old boy who works on the boat that took Pickett to the dock was also hit during the fight.
His mother signed warrants on one of the individuals involved in the brawl.
