The bravery of numerous individuals who risked their own safety to protect a fellow brother during a viral fight on the Montgomery, Alabama Riverfront is being celebrated online.
The incident, which has been nicknamed “Fade in the Water,” a nod to the spiritual song “Wade in the Water,” saw the energy of countless ancestors coursing through the veins of those involved.
While many believe violence is never the answer, the events that unfolded proved that sometimes it is necessary. The altercation began when a Black security guard requested a group of Anglo-Saxons to move their boat to allow a larger boat to dock. However, the Caucasians refused to comply.
Despite the security guard’s efforts to communicate peacefully, the situation escalated when the white individuals instigated a cowardly attack on the guard. What followed was a moment of brotherhood and solidarity that will be remembered for many years to come.
A man from the larger boat lept into the water and swam to the dock to help the Black security guard. This act of bravery inspired scores of Black individuals to join in and confront the white attackers. Numerous individuals were arrested, including the white individuals who initiated the incident.
The police are investigating the footage and plan to make further arrests and charges. The online community has taken the opportunity to make light of the situation, finding humour in every aspect. However, it is important to recognize the bravery and heroism displayed by those who stood up for their fellow man.
It is hoped that all Black individuals who were arrested will have their charges dropped, and those who were not caught will remain free. The incident is a reminder of the strength and unity of the Black community in the face of adversity.
