Montgomery Riverfront Fight: Second Dock Worker Claims White Men Called Deckhand The N-Word and Threatened To Get A Gun

Three white men involved in the Montgomery Riverfront brawl have been recently arrested, and a second dock worker has come forward with claims that the suspects called the black deckhand a racial slur and threatened to use a gun.

The incident took place in Alabama’s Montgomery Riverfront Park on August 5, where a black dock worker was attacked by a group of white men after he repeatedly asked them to move their pontoon boat from the dock space meant for a riverboat.

The dock worker tried to move the boat himself, leading to an argument with one of the white men, which escalated quickly into a physical altercation.

Other Black men and women came to the defence of the dock worker, leading to a melee between patrons of both races. The incident gained widespread attention and several clips, memes, and reenactments surfaced online.

The suspects were identified, and arrest warrants were issued. The authorities identified 48-year-old Richard Roberts as a suspect, who is now facing two misdemeanor counts of assault in the third degree.

Allen Todd, 23, and Zachary Shipman, 25, are facing one misdemeanor count of assault in the third degree.

The police have also asked Reggie Gray, a 42-year-old black man who went viral for slamming people with a folding chair, to report for additional questioning. More charges are expected as the investigation continues.

According to recent reports, during the police interrogation of the witnesses and suspects involved in the brawl in Montgomery, a second dock worker named Crystal Warren has come forward with more details about the incident.

Warren claimed that she was present on the riverboat when the events unfolded. According to her statement, one of the white men who attacked the black deckhand shouted an offensive racial slur before proceeding to charge down the dock to initiate the fight.

The captain of the riverboat, who was waiting to dock, initially requested the owners of the pontoon boat to move their vessel. However, Warren revealed that instead of complying, the white men cursed and gave him the middle finger.

Following a 17-minute delay, a smaller boat arrived and took the Black deckhand and Warren’s son, Daniel, who is 16 years old, from the riverboat to the dock.

In addition to the alleged use of the n-word, Warren claimed that one of the white males escalated the situation by threatening to grab a gun as the brawl erupted. Warren claims her kid was punched in the chest while attempting to break up the brawl. She stated that he had bruised ribs and was sent to the hospital for treatment. Richard Roberts, one of the guys in jail, is suspected of hitting Daniel.
