PRATTVILLE – A teenage boy was fatally shot in Prattville, making it the first homicide of the year. The police department is currently investigating this unfortunate incident.
According to Police Chief Mark Thompson, officers received a call about gunshots in the 300 block of Covered Bridge Parkway around 2:15 p.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, they found the victim lying in the street.
The young man’s identity has not been released, but officials state that he died from a gunshot wound. Coroner Buster Barber confirmed that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police have not yet disclosed the motive behind the shooting. However, preliminary evidence suggests that the boy was walking on the street when the attackers shot him from a passing car.
This information could lead to capital murder charges, which would require the involvement of a grand jury, according to District Attorney CJ Robinson.
The investigation is still in its early stages, and Robinson added that they would follow the evidence wherever it leads. Once the investigation is complete, his office will work with the Prattville Police Department to decide on the charges based on the evidence.
