Montgomery Families Wake Up To White Supremacist Vandalism

It’s disheartening to hear that five families in Montgomery, AL, recently had their homes vandalized with swastikas and racial slurs. Such acts of hatred and intolerance have no place in our society and can cause immense harm to the affected families. It is important for us to stand up against such incidents and come together as a community to support those who have been affected. Let us work towards creating a safer and more inclusive environment for all.

According to a recent email statement from spokesperson Maj. Saba Coleman of the Montgomery Police Department they are currently conducting an investigation into the events as potential hate crimes.

Coleman stated that they are considering the act as a hate crime violation and will conduct a comprehensive report that includes all relevant information to present to federal partners.

In an interview with the Advertiser, Ramos shared his perspective on the current situation, stating that they, along with a few of their neighbours, are facing a challenge in 2023. As a Black individual, Ramos expressed that while they didn’t necessarily expect it, they have come to understand that these types of situations can happen. Ramos questioned what actions would be taken to address the issue at hand.

According to Ramos, he was left questioning the timeliness of the Montgomery Police Department’s response. He noted that they didn’t arrive until four hours after he made the call, which left his wife Katrice feeling uneasy and vulnerable.

As he spoke to the police, he expressed his concern over the potential consequences of leniency towards such a crime. “If someone were to commit such an act and only receive a minor punishment, what would stop them from taking even more drastic measures in the future? Who knows, perhaps we’ll wake up to the news of a house being set ablaze at 4 in the morning,” he voiced his worries.

In his post, Ensler stated that he stands firmly against all forms of hate and discrimination and recognizes the pain and anger that this incident has caused in the community. He also expressed his appreciation for the swift and thorough investigation conducted by law enforcement and called for the culprit to be held accountable for their actions.
