OZARK, Ala.  – John Wayne Sutton obtained 40 years in prison in a plea agreement with Dale County prosecutors for the murder charge he faced on Tuesday.

He acknowledged killing Jenita Rose Maldonado, 29, of Montgomery, who was discovered dead near Dale County Road 20 in June 2021.

Homicide investigators initially thought her death was a suicide until additional information indicated that Maldonado had been murdered.

Sutton, 51, of Clio, and her accused accomplice, 28-year-old Laura Lovequist of Ozark, were both charged.
