A woman who was pushed onto subway tracks says she can’t afford surgery

In New York, the victim of a horrifying attack at the Chambers Street subway station is now facing financial difficulties for her necessary medical treatment. The woman, who was pushed onto the tracks, revealed that she cannot afford the required surgery and is fearful of using public transportation again. This tragic incident has left her traumatized and struggling to get the help she needs.

After relocating from overseas, Xu Yanan, aged 34, had barely spent a few months in the bustling city of New York when she was pushed off the subway platform by a stranger, leading to a fractured leg on Tuesday.

Yanan recounted the terrifying incident when she was standing on the platform, keeping a distance of more than a meter from the tracks. Suddenly, she found herself flying towards the tracks, and everything became hazy in her mind thereafter. Despite trying three times, she could not get back on her feet, as she shared with CBS New York via a translator app.

Living in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, Yanan expressed her gratitude towards the kind individuals who rescued her and brought her to safety. She acknowledged the heartwarming act of the good Samaritans.

In her own words, she expressed her gratitude towards the people who assisted her in finding an ambulance, saying, “They gave me a second chance at life.”

On Thursday, authorities apprehended 41-year-old Samuel Junker and charged him with felony assault. At the time of his arrest, police stated that there were no signs pointing towards a bias crime, and the motive behind the attack remained unknown.

According to David Wordell, who is an acquaintance of Yanan, he witnessed the horrifying incident where Yanan was pushed onto the tracks. Wordell stated that the assault was unprovoked and there seemed to be no reason for such a violent act. The motive behind the attack is currently under investigation.

According to Yanan, she used to believe that the subway was a safe mode of transportation. However, with recent events, there seems to be a sense of unease and uncertainty surrounding it.

According to Yanan, she was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital by the paramedics. The doctors conducted an X-ray which showed that she had a fracture in her leg.

Yanan expressed that their leg had been fractured and required minor surgery. They were in the process of making an appointment, but unfortunately, they would have to bear all the costs themselves. Yanan felt uneasy about this because they did not have any insurance to cover the expenses.

During our conversation, we inquired from Yanan whether this situation had any impact on her perception of living in America and New York City.

Yanan expressed her caution while walking and being in transportation, but she still considers America a blessing and wishes to continue living here. She has faith in the government and police to resolve any issues.
