Meet the Founders of the Montgomery Riverfront Brawl

Over the weekend, a brawl occurred at Montgomery’s Riverfront that led to multiple arrests.

The Montgomery Police Department (MPD) reacted to a disturbance on Coosa Street, where they witnessed a large group of people fighting on the Alabama River dock.

The fight reportedly started over a dispute regarding a pontoon boat blocking the dock where a riverboat was attempting to dock.

The incident was recorded by several witnesses, who shared videos on social media. The MPD is investigating the entire incident, and as of Sunday afternoon, there are currently four active warrants.

There may be additional warrants issued following a review of additional video footage from the public and the City of Montgomery’s video surveillance.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed released a statement regarding the brawl at Montgomery’s Riverfront on Sunday afternoon.

Last night, the Montgomery Police Department acted swiftly to detain several reckless individuals for attacking a man who was doing his job. Warrants are being signed and justice will be served. This was an unfortunate incident which never should have occurred. As our police department investigates these intolerable actions, we should not become desensitized to violence of any kind in our community. Those who choose violent actions will be held accountable by our criminal justice system.

As the police delve into the investigation of the brawl that occurred over the weekend, social media detectives claim to have identified the alleged culprits behind the incident.

The individuals who are now facing criticism on social media include Chase Shipman, Steve Todd, Rachel Faulkner Todd, Catherine Cromer Martin, Anna Blake Langford, Mary Elizabeth Todd, and Allen Todd.

According to the Selma Times Journal, Chase Shipman, the proprietor of Vasser’s Mini-Mart, has denied any involvement in the altercation and stated that he was at Montgomery’s Riverfront Park during the time of the incident.

However, after viewing a video of the incident, many people on social media are skeptical of his claims and believe that he is lying.

I am sure most of you have seen the news about the riverboat incident. Yes, I was there but I was the first to try to get away,” Shipman posted. “You can see in the video I attached, and I do not condone what happened. I tried to stop it and realized that I could not, so I tried to get away. There is a video of me being the first to run away because what was happening was wrong and I did not want to be a part of it. I realize I have a business to run and represent and no charges were filed against me because I was not involved.

The police are still investigating the matter, but the social media community is quick to judge and condemn those they believe are responsible for the brawl.
