A man from Franklin County has been arrested in connection with a machete attack

FRANKLIN COUNTY — A guy is in jail on a charge of aggravated assault because he is said to have used a machete to hurt someone.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says that 63-year-old James Earl Stephens attacked the victim with a knife because he thought the victim had stolen his soda. The incident report says that Stephens, who was sleeping on the victim’s couch, had been fighting with the man all day, and Stephens accused the man of “taking his SunDrop.”

When the victim went to take a bath, Stephens allegedly “barged into the bathroom” with a machete and started beating him. According to reports, the victim pushed Stephens out of the bathroom after Stephens cut his left arm with the knife and hit him with the bathroom door.

When sheriff’s officers talked to Stephens, they saw that he had a cut over his eye. He told them that the victim hit him with a stick, which the deputies could see.

Deputies said they couldn’t find that stick, but they did find a bloody knife and a hatchet that Stephens was said to be carrying.

Stephens was given a $25,000 bond and put in the Franklin County Jail.
