George Childress is running for Montgomery City Council District 7 and has huge plans for the city.
Councilor Clay McInnis now represents District 7, but he does not want to run again. Cloverdale and the Garden District are included in District 7.
Childress envisions a Montgomery in which the City Council collaborates with the school district to fund extracurricular activities. He envisions a Montgomery in which the city adopts programs to assist families in putting food on the table. He wishes to lay the groundwork for the next generation of leaders.
He would like to see the city reallocate funds to fund these programs. Childress, an usher at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, wants “to make Montgomery County the best it can be.”
According to public sources, Childress is 40 years old.
Childress also believes the City Council should engage more closely with the state legislature to advocate for Montgomery Public Schools’ needs.
‘We have got to look out for the schools in our city… because the children are our future,” he said.
In 2015, Childress ran for City Council. At the time, he earned 3% of the vote.
He believes his history has equipped him for this role.
“I just think my whole life experience,” he said. “I know what it’s like to be down, and I know what it’s like to work hard and know what it is to have something taken from you when you’ve worked hard for it.”
Childress is currently competing for the District 7 seat against three other candidates: Ja’mel Brown, Christopher Turner, and Andrew Szymanski.
