A former Montgomery County jail officer has been arrested for bribery and contraband

Montgomery, Alabama – A former Montgomery County prison officer was arrested, according to the US Marshals Service.

Timothy Bernard Summerlin, 33, is charged by marshals with conspiracy to deliver contraband to a prison inmate and bribery of a public employee. He was arrested in a Walmart parking lot in Montgomery on Tuesday and charged in federal court.

Summerlin is accused of collaborating with others to sneak illegal substances to federal inmates at the Montgomery County Detention Facility. Marshals claim he was paid to do this.

According to a news release, Summerlin worked as a corrections officer at the facility for nearly three and a half years. According to authorities, the alleged contraband activities continued until about February. It’s unclear when his time with the sheriff’s office ended.

Chief Deputy M. Dante Gordon stated in the release, “Corrections officers are held to a high standard of integrity, trust, and honour. This investigation has spanned approximately seven (7) months by my office, and we are not done yet. There will be more indictments coming very soon.”

In this investigation, the United States Marshals Service for the Middle District of Alabama collaborated with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
