Scottsboro victim identified after a verbal fight turns into a shooting

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — The Scottsboro Police Department (SPD) says that after a shooting on Saturday, one person died and one other person was taken into custody.

The man who was killed has been named as Angel Nicomedes Peralta, who was 34 years old and from Panama City, Florida.

Gerry Paul Kelley, who is 62 years old and from Scottsboro, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the killing. The Jackson County Jail is where Kelley was taken.

A spokesman for the SPD said that around 1 p.m., officers were sent to the 300 block of Maple Avenue because someone had been shot. Officers found a man who had been hurt. He was taken to Highlands Medical Center, where he was later declared dead.

During their investigation, SPD officers found that the killing was caused by a fight between two neighbours.
