Woman migrant taken into custody for hitting NYPD officer when he attempted to seize her unregistered motorcycle near a shelter in New York City

Earlier this week, an NYPD officer attempting to confiscate an unregistered motorbike in front of a Manhattan shelter for asylum-seekers was slapped by a migrant woman, which led to her arrest.

According to the police, the arrest took place during a scooter crackdown on Thursday at West 71st Street and Broadway on the Upper West Side. The incident occurred near the Stratford Arms Hotel, which is currently functioning as a migrant shelter. As the police were conducting the crackdown, several people were captured on camera tussling with them.

In the video clip, an officer can be heard warning the crowd to move back as he leads a young man away from the bike and onto the sidewalk. The officer cautions the man that he is in danger of being arrested, urging him to be careful.

Police have charged Baibaia Rodriguez, a 20-year-old, with obstruction of governmental administration, harassment, and resisting arrest. The police alleged that Rodriguez hit an officer with an open hand at approximately 10:30 p.m.

According to the authorities, she had been taken into custody in July due to a severe assault on her partner in a Bronx apartment. Currently, she is incarcerated at the Stratford Arms.

Baibaia Rodriguez, 20, was arrested after she slapped an NYPD officer who was attempting to confiscate her unregistered motorbike in front of the Stratford Arms shelter this week.

West Side Rag was the first to report the incident and subsequent arrest. According to their report, mopeds and bikes illegally chained near the Stratford Arms Hotel were seized by the NYPD, and a woman was taken into custody.

Joe Germanotta, father of pop icon Lady Gaga, and some of the residents at Stratford Arms have expressed their concerns to city officials about the new tenants. According to an article by the New York Post, they have reported issues such as excessive trash, drug activity, and public disturbances in the area.

According to The Post, 66-year-old Germanotta shared that the most difficult time for her is during the night when the noise from the neighbourhood starts at around 10 PM and lasts until 4 AM. She mentioned that this noise is due to the playing of music and the revving of motocross and motorbikes on the streets.

According to the police, Thursday’s enforcement against scooters was prompted by complaints from the community.

According to West Side Rag, the NYPD has seized a total of four mopeds, one motorcycle, and one scooter. Additionally, nine bicycles were confiscated by the NYPD, who claimed that they were illegally chained to a pole.
