Raymond Madison’s Parole Request Denied

During a hearing on September 26th, Raymond Madison, aged 30, was denied a parole request by the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles.

At the hearing, Madison, 30, was denied parole by the board. However, they did not set a date for his next possible hearing.

Madison, who is an African American male, is currently serving an 87-month sentence at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility for various charges in Butler and Baldwin counties. Among the charges from Butler County, Madison received sentences for first-degree receiving stolen property on May 23, 2022, and first-degree promoting prison contraband on June 9, 2022. Additionally, he was sentenced to three consecutive 24-month terms on May 5 for two counts of unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle and one count of burglary in the third degree.

During parole hearings, the board allows for individuals to provide testimony either in favor of or against a petition. However, in the case of Madison’s request, no witnesses came forward to offer evidence. Typically, the District Attorney’s office is allowed to present evidence during these hearings, but according to Charlotte Tesmer, this is usually reserved for cases where the inmate has committed a violent crime against a victim.

Madison was not only given his current sentence, but he also received a conviction in May 2021. The conviction was for first-degree theft of property, and he was sentenced to serve 24 months in Baldwin County.

During September 26, the board conducted a total of 31 hearings, which included 24 parole hearings and seven pardon hearings. Out of these, they granted parole to four inmates, while one hearing was continued. Unfortunately, parole was denied to 20 individuals. Moving on to the pardon hearings, five out of the seven were granted, and two were denied. The board thoroughly reviewed each case before making their decision.
