Police have announced that the remains of a homicide victim, previously missing, have been discovered inside a drainage culvert located in the northern area of Colorado Springs.
On October 5th, authorities were informed by an anonymous source about the presence of human remains stored inside a bag in a drainage culvert situated close to the 500 block of West Polk Street.
The discovery of the bag containing human remains was made possible with the help of the Colorado Springs Fire Department, who aided investigators in accessing the culvert where it was found.
The identification of the remains found last week has been confirmed by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office. The person has been identified as Daxcimo Ceja, who was 48 years old.
As per the previous report by the Gazette, it was established that Ceja was the victim in a homicide that took place in March 2022.
During Simmons’ preliminary hearing in October 2022, the prosecution made a case linking Simmons and Ceja. They highlighted Ceja’s documented feelings towards sexual predators and suggested that this could have been the motivation behind the murder.
During the proceedings, Detective Jason Gasper testified that Simmons had a young daughter who she believed had been sexually assaulted by her stepfather. In 2019, Simmons had a heated argument with her stepfather over custody, which resulted in her stabbing him. She was later charged with second-degree assault and subsequently sent to prison. This testimony sheds light on the complicated circumstances surrounding Simmons’ actions and the possible factors that may have contributed to her behavior.
The authorities were not able to locate his body until October 5th.
During the preliminary hearing in October 2022, several witnesses testified that Simmons had used a .357 caliber handgun to shoot Ceja. Their statements shed light on the events that led to Ceja’s tragic death and provided crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office is currently investigating the cause and manner of death of Ceja. The investigation is being conducted as a homicide case. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
