NYPD reports gunpoint robbery on Sunnyside street as moped riders steal $60,000 in cash

According to reports, a man was robbed at gunpoint on a Sunnyside street by two individuals riding a moped. The suspects made off with $60,000 in cash. The police are currently conducting an investigation to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

According to authorities from the 108th Precinct, a daring daylight robbery occurred outside the 99c and Gifts discount store at 48-16 Skillman Ave. At approximately 3 p.m., one of the robbers approached a 47-year-old victim and fired a gun at the ground.

According to authorities, the thief managed to steal $60,000 in cash from the victim and made a speedy escape on a black moped. His accomplice was driving the vehicle as they fled northbound on 49th Street.

The authorities have not disclosed any details regarding how the suspects were aware of the victim’s possession of a significant sum of money prior to the attack. It remains a mystery as to why the victim had the cash on his person during the robbery.

On September 17th, the police released an image of the supposed gunman, which was quite blurry. Another unclear image of the duo on a moped was also released. The alleged shooter was seen carrying a food delivery backpack, while the driver of the moped was wearing a red and white jacket along with a baseball cap.

According to authorities, the victim emerged unharmed from the situation, and law enforcement is currently conducting an inquiry into the matter.

According to police data, the 108th Precinct, which serves Sunnyside, Woodside, and Long Island City, has recorded 526 cases of grand larceny this year until September 10. This number is 9.4% higher compared to the same period last year.

Approximately two months ago, two individuals wearing masks stole over $10,000 worth of merchandise from a smoke shop located at 43-45 44th St. in Sunnyside while wielding firearms. Friday’s robbery occurred just eight weeks after this incident.
