Former Correctional Officer Given A 29-Month Jail Term For Smuggling contraband into Rikers Island

On Tuesday, a former correction officer was sentenced for the act of smuggling contraband into Rikers Island.

According to reports, Kyrstle Burrell, aged 36, has been handed a jail sentence of 29 months for her involvement in smuggling contraband into a correctional facility. She received a total of almost $10,000 in bribes for her actions.

As a correction officer at Rikers Island, she stands accused of smuggling cell phones and accepting payments for narcotics, according to prosecutors.
