Officials reported that on Wednesday, the New York City police conducted a search of a house located in Queens where a 10-year-old child resides. During the search, the police found and seized fentanyl and weapons from the property.
According to the NYPD, law enforcement officials carried out a search warrant that resulted in the discovery of over 5 pounds of suspected cocaine, which contained traces of fentanyl, as well as more than 2 pounds of suspected heroin, also with traces of fentanyl. During a recent news conference, Deputy Chief Jerry O’Sullivan expressed his outrage at the fact that a 10-year-old child was sleeping just across the hall from a deadly amount of drugs. The child has since been removed from the home, but the situation is still “completely unacceptable.” It’s a tragic reminder of the dangers that drugs can pose to young people, even when they are not actively seeking them out. The incident underscores the importance of taking steps to keep drugs out of reach of children and ensuring their safety at all times.
According to O’Sullivan, it is simply incomprehensible how anyone could believe that such behavior is acceptable.
Authorities have apprehended five individuals who have been charged with a range of crimes including criminal possession of controlled substances, criminal possession of a weapon, acting in an injurious manner towards a child, criminal use of drug paraphernalia, and criminal possession of narcotic drugs.
Just recently, an incident in the Bronx involving fentanyl exposure at a daycare resulted in the unfortunate death of a one-year-old boy and the sickness of three other children. This discovery is unrelated to that incident but serves as a reminder of the potential danger of fentanyl and the importance of taking necessary precautions to prevent exposure.
According to the police, a tragic incident occurred on Friday resulting in the death of Nicholas Dominici, a one-year-old, while three other children, aged between 8 months and 2 years, were hospitalized. The affected children were administered Narcan, an overdose reversal drug, and thankfully, they are now on the road to recovery.
According to federal court documents, individuals were found to have stored a significant amount of fentanyl weighing one kilogram right on top of children’s play mats that were being used for napping. As a result, two individuals have been taken into custody and are facing both state and federal charges.
