On Friday afternoon, a driver in Colorado Springs caused multiple accidents and was subsequently arrested. As per the Colorado Springs Police Department blotter, officers arrived at the scene near Woodmen Road and Rangewood Drive after receiving a report of an injury accident around 3 p.m. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the incident began at 4900 New Car Drive where the driver hit a parked vehicle and then fled the scene. The driver then collided with another vehicle at Austin Bluffs and Woodmen before finally crashing into six vehicles in the Woodmen and Rangewood Dr. area.
According to the blotter report, the perpetrator made an attempt to escape the scene on foot but was apprehended by the Colorado State Patrol and CSPD officers present. Fortunately, the suspect was taken into custody without any additional trouble. It is speculated that alcohol may have played a role in the incident.
During the incident, a vehicle was hit and as a result, it flipped over. Unfortunately, one of the occupants from that vehicle sustained an injury and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to a recent study conducted and published by US News & World Report earlier this year, Colorado Springs has the highest per capita rate of DUI arrests in the nation, with Denver following in second place. The study also found that Colorado Springs is the 26th riskiest city for drivers overall, while Denver ranks at number 21.
