Breaking News: Dangerous shootout outside of Albuquerque apartment complex

In a distressing incident of gun violence, a shootout occurred in southeast Albuquerque at the Somerset Park Apartment Complex near San Mateo and Gibson. The occurrence was captured in a dramatic video, which lasted for about 30 seconds and featured more than a dozen shots being fired. The incident further highlights the prevalence of gun violence in Albuquerque and the urgent need for measures to address it.

During the shooting incident, Orlando Rodriguez happened to be at home.

Rodriguez shared that while she and her son were watching TV, they suddenly heard what they initially thought were fireworks.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., a silver Audi pulled up behind the complex where a blue car was already parked, and that is when the shooting occurred.

According to Rodriguez, as they heard the loud noise, he instructed his son to hit the ground because they knew it was real and getting closer. “Then it got louder as we heard it and I, I actually told my son to hit the ground, you know, because it was right close by then knew it was real, real,” Rodriguez recounted.

As seen in the video, a parked blue car was targeted by two men who started shooting at it. In response, the people in the blue car fired back, and as a result, one of the assailants, identified as Wendolyn Asbury, was hit. The silver car then quickly fled the scene.

As the shootout erupted, a security guard attempted to rush out to assess the situation, but a bullet narrowly missed his head, causing him to quickly retreat back to safety. The close call served as a stark reminder of the danger and chaos that can ensue in such situations.

Rodriguez expressed gratitude that her grandson was not in the house during the incident, although he was in close proximity as it occurred just outside the door. She shared her relief at his safety.

Once the commotion had died down, Asbury was found lying on the ground, swearing and shouting out for assistance. Shortly after, the silver car returned and collected him.

According to authorities, the car was noticed by the police driving recklessly on the road. Upon stopping the driver, they discovered that Asbury was bleeding in the backseat. He was immediately transported to the hospital for medical attention. During the exchange of gunfire, a minor was also wounded and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. The blue car was the site of this unfortunate incident.

According to Rodriguez, in the aftermath of the shooting, a number of his neighbors promptly gathered their belongings and relocated.

Residents of the complex shared concerns about the frequency of gunshots in the area. Despite the fact that it has never happened in their complex, they hear gunshots all too often. It’s disheartening that such incidents are considered normal around the area. However, they refuse to succumb to fear and instead choose to remain resilient. It’s unfortunate that safety is a concern even in one’s own home.

Asbury has been accused by the police of committing aggravated battery, shooting at a car, and brandishing a firearm. According to them, he had been on their radar and had a warrant issued against him just a week before.
