Clergy Members Express Concern Over 21+ Drag Brunch in Albion, Community Pushes Back

A group of clergy members have expressed their concern over a drag brunch event for those aged 21 and over in Albion. The community has responded with pushback on the issue.

A sold-out crowd at Fringe Fest was treated to an electrifying performance by Darienne Lake, Mrs. Kasha Davis, Ambrosia Salad, and Aggy Dune. Despite pushback from religious leaders, the fabulous foursome is all set to perform a drag brunch in Albion on October 1st. The photo captured by WHAM radiates the high energy and enthusiasm of the performers and the audience alike.

Orleans County residents are buzzing about a recent drag show that has taken place in Albion, N.Y. The event has garnered a lot of attention and sparked conversation throughout the community.

Pastor Tim Lindsay wrote a letter expressing his concern about the drag brunch event, stating that it could have a negative impact on the community. He mentioned that although the event is aimed at adults, it could potentially lead to similar drag events for children, such as the drag queen story hours that are frequently organized by Mrs. Kasha Davis in Rochester.

In the letter, it is stated that there are sexual undertones and implicit sexual content in many drag performances. Although this content is not highlighted in story hour settings, it remains a significant aspect of the drag community. The letter goes on to explain that just as the majority of individuals in the community would not support “adult film star story hours” or “exotic dancer story hours”, even if those individuals were not directly promoting their respective industries, it is common sense that events of this nature would be inappropriate for children.

According to Lindsay, he initially requested the organizer to cancel the event after learning about it. However, when his plea was ignored, he took matters into his own hands and gathered signatures from over twenty-five other religious leaders, ultimately composing and sending the letter in question.

After serving as a spiritual leader and pastor in Albion for 36 years, it is clear to me that the Bible emphasizes the importance of being a watchman on the wall. As a watchman, it is our duty to warn people of any impending danger. The Bible teaches us that if we see something coming, it is our responsibility to alert others. We can only hope that those we warn will take heed of our words and take appropriate action. Ultimately, the decision lies with them, and the consequences of their actions will be their own responsibility.

The letter was shared to Facebook and went viral, with most of the comments in support of the drag queens.

Mrs. Kasha Davis expressed that the issue was brought to light, and Aggy Dune added that it was met with disapproval from 24 pastors and their wives who wrote letters of protest stating that events like this were not suitable for towns like Albion. However, Aggy Dune stood firm on their stance that love is appropriate everywhere and that the event was simply a way to spread love and have a good time.

Ambrosia Salad believes in the philosophy of “live and let live.” According to her, as long as something is not causing harm to anyone, there is no reason to object to it.

The tickets for the event were completely sold out in just a matter of days after the announcement was made.

According to Lindsay, it was important to bring up the issue at hand. She acknowledged that it may attract more attention and potentially draw in individuals who oppose their perspective. However, she believes that this is an inevitable result that cannot be altered.

According to Darienne Lake, many individuals were unaware of the situation until they stumbled upon the post. She mentioned that some people even expressed gratitude for informing them about the matter. In her own words, “Oops, you played yourself.”

According to a statement shared with 13WHAM, the event organizer has given their official response.

Despite Lindsay’s hopes for the event to be canceled, the drag queens involved are standing their ground and proceeding as planned.

According to Darienne Lake, there exists a lack of understanding when it comes to things that people are not familiar with. However, she firmly believes in not giving up and not letting them succeed.
