According to reports, a female passenger was reportedly removed from a Southwest Airlines flight last Saturday for soothing her nervous dog by petting it.
In a recent social media post, passenger Sara Price shared a TikTok video of a woman gathering her belongings and leaving the plane. According to Price, the woman had flown to Colorado Springs with the intention of picking up a new puppy before returning home to California. The incident occurred during her return flight. The video has since gained traction online, sparking discussion about the importance of following airline protocol and maintaining a respectful attitude towards fellow passengers and crew members.
According to Price’s caption on the post, the puppy was whimpering slightly and as the flight attendant was boarding everyone, they approached Price and warned her that if her dog continued to make noise, she may not be allowed to fly.
According to Price, the dog’s whining ceased after the woman extended her hand into the carrier to pet it. During the incident, the woman was holding the carrier on her lap, but the flight attendant instructed her to close the carrier and stow it under the seat.
Price wrote about the bewildered reactions of those around them, exclaiming, “Everyone around us was like, what’s going on here!?”
As per Price, the woman followed their instructions diligently.
According to Price, she noticed the dog emitting a gentle whimper, prompting her to lean in and caress it from the outside of its carrier, precisely on the mesh. However, all the flight attendants huddled together at the plane’s front and came to a consensus that they should return to the gate and remove the canine from the flight.
In the video, you can hear a woman referring to a flight attendant as “rude” and “a mean person”. Interestingly, her husband came to her defense and spoke up on her behalf.
The passenger berated the flight attendant, saying “You should feel ashamed of yourself.”
According to Price, she and her spouse were also removed from the flight simply for speaking up.
According to a statement sent to The Messenger, Southwest Airlines has acknowledged the video that was shared and has reported that the customer in question did not comply with the policy of keeping her dog’s kennel closed. The airline’s employees are trained to ensure that customers follow protocol, and in this particular situation, the customer repeatedly refused to comply with the crew’s instructions. As a result, the decision was made to deplane the disruptive passenger.
