Alabama was the site of a bombing incident at an abortion clinic in the late 1990s, which caused a great deal of chaos in the state. The individual who pleaded guilty and waived his right to contest his sentence at the time is now seeking to appeal his original conviction, which was handed down in 2005.
According to Courthouse News Service, Eric Robert Rudolph’s hearing was recently discussed.
During Rudolph’s court hearing, his public defender, Deanna Oswald, presented a defense argument on his behalf. Oswald’s statement, as reported by Courthouse News, was that:
According to attorney Gabriel Mendel, not everyone shares the same perspective. Mendel believes that Rudolph is trying to challenge the sentence that was handed down to him. Essentially, Rudolph is looking to invalidate his convictions as a means of invalidating his sentence based on a technicality in the law.
According to a report on Wiki, Eric Rudolph is currently serving four consecutive life sentences for his involvement in the bombing of the BHAM abortion clinic, as well as the 1996 bombing at the ATL Summer Olympics, another abortion clinic, and a lesbian bar.
