According to the NYPD, a commuter on the R train was assaulted and robbed in Dutch Kills on September 5. Reports suggest that the incident occurred due to a disagreement over vaping, which eventually turned violent.
At around 4 p.m., a stranger approached a 36-year-old victim who was seated on a southbound R train and demanded that he stop using his vape.
The perpetrator proceeded to forcibly take away a sum of $200 in cash before fleeing towards an unknown destination on Northern Boulevard.
After the incident, the victim suffered a cut to his head and was immediately taken to Elmhurst Hospital for medical assistance. Fortunately, he received stitches and is now in a stable condition.
According to the latest CompStat reports, the 114th Precinct has recorded a total of 333 assaults until Sept. 3, 2023. This number is lower compared to last year’s 342 cases reported during the same period, representing a 2.6% decrease. On the other hand, there have been 179 robbery cases within the precinct this year, which is 19 more than the 160 cases reported at the same point last year. This represents an increase of 11.9%, according to CompStat.
On September 8, the perpetrator’s surveillance photo was made public by the NYPD.
According to reports, the individual in question is estimated to be around 25 years of age, with a height of 6 feet and a weight of about 160 pounds. He has a dark complexion, a slender build, brown eyes, black hair, and a beard and mustache. The last known outfit he was seen wearing consisted of a red durag, a black tank top, pink shorts, and blue and white sneakers.
