According to cops and reports, a good Samaritan was beaten to a pulp with a wooden bat in the Bronx after intervening to stop his alleged assailant from hurting a dog.
Police charged Rubin Bartley, 34, with attempted murder after he bludgeoned the 35-year-old victim during a confrontation at East 135th Street and Third Avenue in Mott Haven around 3:45 p.m. Sunday.
According to police sources, Bartley was allegedly abusing his dog, a female Doberman, and knocking the victim to the ground when he tried to intervene.
According to the sources, the suspect went to his car and returned with a wooden bat, and the two guys began struggling on the ground.
According to the sources, Bartley then got up and began repeatedly pummeling the do-gooder with the bat, shattering his jaw.
According to police, the victim was brought to Lincoln Medical Center in stable condition with trauma to his face and head.
Bartley, of East New York, was apprehended at the scene of the attack. He is also charged with assault, according to authorities.
On Monday, his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court was scheduled.
