According to both the authorities and the family of the victim, an 11-year-old boy was viciously attacked by his aunt’s therapy dog inside her apartment located in downtown Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon.
According to law enforcement sources and police, a young boy was left with severe injuries to his face, eye, head, and arm after he was attacked by a pit bull mix named Aries, who is an American Bully breed. The incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. in the Smith Houses.
According to authorities, Joshua, who has been identified by his family, was subjected to an attack and is currently receiving treatment at Bellevue Hospital. Fortunately, he is in stable condition. His aunt, Johanna Lopez-Ramos, informed that he had undergone surgery in the early evening of Tuesday.
According to Lopez-Ramos, the dog attack on the young victim and his twin brother, who had recently moved into the apartment after their mother passed away due to cancer, may have been triggered by the children’s overwhelming behavior towards the dog.
As she spoke with reporters outside her apartment, she surmised that the dog must have succumbed to the strength of her assailants. “So, I guess their strength was too much for the dog,” she shared with a hint of sadness in her voice. Her assumption lingered in the air as she tried to make sense of the events that had just unfolded.
According to Lopez-Ramos, she was using the bathroom when the attack occurred.
As per the statement, the aunt shared that she heard her nephew screaming and rushed out of the bathroom. She had to act swiftly to intervene and separate the children, and unfortunately, she was also bitten in the process.
According to Julian, the twin brother of the young victim, he was present during the incident and immediately fled the scene.
According to police reports, the Department of Emergency Service Unit of the NYPD is currently in charge of the animal.
According to Lopez-Ramos, her beloved therapy dog, who has been a source of comfort and aid for her mental health, had never shown any signs of aggression prior to the incident that occurred on Tuesday. Despite the frightening nature of the incident, she maintains that her furry companion is typically gentle and non-threatening.
She expressed feeling distressed, admitting that her furry companion was the one who provided emotional support. “He’s my dog,” she said, with a sense of attachment and concern.
Lopez-Ramos expressed her fear and shock as she witnessed something she had only seen on the news happen right before her eyes. “It’s terrifying because I’ve never seen such a thing,” she shared. Although she had seen reports of similar incidents involving other children and people, seeing it happen in person was a completely different experience for her.
